HDPE is one of the more reliable plastics to sell, because the market for it is well established and reprocessors take it in most of the forms it comes in. What varies is colour and cleanliness.

How HDPE recycling works
HDPE is the tough, stiff polyethylene used where a material has to take some punishment: milk and detergent bottles, chemical drums, crates, wheelie bins, pallets, water and gas pipe, geomembrane.
It grades primarily on colour. Natural HDPE, meaning milk bottles and unpigmented moulding, is the most versatile because it can go into a wider range of end products, so it sits at the top. Mixed-colour material has a good route too, but it is a different grade and needs to be kept apart to earn it. Black is separate again.
Beyond colour, what matters is whether the polymer is on its own. Caps, labels, sleeves and other polymers in a bale all have to come out downstream, and consistent baling is worth more than a heavier bale of mixed material.
HDPE grades we take
- Blow moulding scrap Baled bottles from dairy, beverage, detergent and personal care. Natural · mixed colour
- Injection moulding scrap Crates, bins, pallets, caps and closures. Baled, shredded or as regrind.
- Pipe Clean offcuts and redundant pipe from installation and manufacture. Usually shredded. Black · blue · yellow
- Drums and IBCs Redundant or damaged containers. Must be certified triple-rinsed and free of hazardous residue.
- Sheet and fabrication offcuts Clean waste from extrusion and fabrication.
- Purgings and lump Dense blocks from extruder start-up, shutdown and material changes.
Preparation and quality
Separate natural from coloured. This is the single largest factor in what a load is worth. Natural HDPE mixed into coloured becomes coloured, and it cannot be separated again once baled.
Drums need to be certified clean. Triple-rinsed, documented and free of hazardous residue. If you are not certain what was in them, tell us before arranging anything.
Consistent bales beat heavy ones. A bale of one grade is straightforward to place. A bale that changes partway through has to be treated as its lowest content.
